I'm not a Chinese food expert by any means, but I have lived in San Francisco for 20 years and am used to having a wide selection and variety of good Chinese food all around me, so I went in to Taste of China hoping for some comfort food but not expecting too much. It turned out to be delicious!
From the choices on the menu I gather that the food here is Hong Kong style, which I haven't tried before, so again I'm reviewing this as a general lover of food and not any sort of expert on the specific style.
The honey ribs appetizer was good, but a bit messier than I had expected, I had the ho fun with beef which was exactly what I wanted, a generous portion of juicy, delicious, wide noodles with beef and vegetables. My boyfriend got a new-to-me dish of baked chicken over cracked rice which had a cheese sauce that I was initially wary of (I think it's the first time I've seen cheese in a Chinese dish) but was very good... but even better than the sauce was the chicken itself which was cooked perfectly and tasted fabulous.
We had the Hong Kong style tea, which was good and strong, and they had a whole range of bubble and other cold drinks that I'm looking forward to trying.
The interior is clean and simple, but in a comfortable modern way, and the bathrooms upstairs small but clean. Prices were reasonable, especially considering portion size.
